True Sauna
The earliest Saunas were dug into embankments in the ground. Later Saunas were built above ground with wooden logs. In the Savusauna, the rocks were heated in a stone stove with a wood fire until they were hot. This room did not have a chimney but a small air vent low down in the wall.

Shenholm: Designer
Nils Shenholm is a life-long designer, builder and woodworker. He visions and creates both modern (indoor) and traditional (outdoor) saunas—which he builds in his shop in Duxbury Vermont. He has completed over 100 successful projects since 1989: His work receives the highest compliments from architects, builders and homeowners alike.
Nils was a charter member of and today holds a seat as an Emeritus Board member of the North American Sauna Society.
He became a dealer for HELO (the oldest and largest Sauna Manufacturer in the world) in 1993.
